Tuberculosis of the male genital organs as the first manifestation of generalized tuberculosis

Abstract. Urogenital tuberculosis is difficult to diagnose in the general healthcare network because it has no pathognomonic symptoms, and there is no screening for urogenital tuberculosis, which complicates its timely diagnosis.
This article presents a clinical case of generalized tuberculosis that first manifested as a lesion of the external genital organs. A high level of clinical suspicion for tuberculosis prompted special investigations using widely available methods. Real-time PCR diagnostics allowed to identify tuberculosis of the male genital organs as the first manifestation of generalized tuberculosis. We present a rare case of urogenital tuberculosis diagnosed by ejaculate analysis, as well as a successful treatment outcome.
The key factor in timely diagnosis of tuberculosis is physician awareness, which is based on a certain minimum level of knowledge about the infection.
