Three clinical observations in patients with various manifestations of pyelonephritis are presented. Using 18F-FDG PET/CT and transmission electron microscopy of the renal parenchyma at 10,000x magnification, the ultrastructural and molecular-cellular features of acute purulent pyelonephritis, chronic pyelonephritis with neurogenic hypertension, and chronic pyelonephritis resulting in secondary contracted kidney are identified. The clinical significance of the identified changes, the reliability of the obtained results, and the prospects for their further application are discussed.
